Must I Winterize my sprinkling system?

A sprinkling system is a valuable addition to making your home attractive and your farmland fruitful. But as with everything of value, proper maintenance is important and will keep your system working like it should for a very long time.

Here’s why we winterize.

Winterization,a vital procedure,is a process that removes all water from your system. If this isn’t done, and there is a freeze,pipes,valves,back-flows and sprinkler heads can be broken, cracked or damaged when water expands into ice. What’s worse,if a pipe is cracked underground it may not be detected for months or even years. You risk a higher water bill, month after month. If you do conclude that a subterranean pipe has cracked, you will have to find it before you can fix it–a time-consuming ordeal.

Of course, the more exposed the pipes, the quicker they freeze, the further underground, the slower they freeze. The longer the freeze, the further down the ground freezes. But whether the broken hardware is visible or not,it can become expensive to fix this—especially if the damage is such that you need to replace the whole system.

Here’s what it costs.

Most people don’t want to take that risk and hire professionals to blow the water out of the system using a compressor. Professionals know how to do this safely. They know the amount of pressure needed, they know what to remove and what to leave, what to seal and what to open during the procedure, and in what condition to leave the system for the winter when they are done. The average cost is about $100,a negligible fee considering the cost of after winter repair if it’s not done.

Enjoy your sprinkling system all summer long, then feel secure that the system is safe all winter long by hiring a professional to winterize you sprinkler investment. If you are in the Denver metro area and need to have your sprinklers winterized, why not call Sage Solutions, the sprinkler professionals? We can be reached at 303-578-7054 or you can email us.
